CF Nutrition Information

Healthy Eating for individuals with CF:
Kids with CF need to eat more food and calories than other kids. That's because the thick mucus prevents some food from being digested and absorbed properly. CF Kids need a lot more proteins, which help to make the body strong. Proteins come from milk, cheese, and other dairy products, and from meat, fish, olives, chicken, turkey, beans, peas, and other foods. People with CF also need more fats than most people. Fats are found in butter, meat, cheese, mayonnaise, nuts, gravies and sauces, creamy soups, and many other places. Your body also needs more salt, especially when you're outside or exercise a lot. People with CF may need to take vitamins, too. People with CF need to not only eat bigger meals, but also have regular snacks. It's very important for people with CF to take enzymes with all of their foods and snacks, as directed by their healthcare professionals. Enzymes help to digest food and keep people with CF healthy.
